Here is one of my giclee prints in the current 40 winks show. I was inspired by the recent Frozen Planet TV series and an Inuit Folk tale called ‘The Hunter & the Polar Bear’. The story is about a very poor Hunter who makes a deal with a mythical Polar Bear – if he heals his friend then he will be come a good hunter. I decided to incorporate the mythical 10 legged polar bear – who traditionally would terrorize humanity but in this case I made him friendly. I find the North and South poles very inspiring lately… lots of polar bears and penguins appearing in my sketch books.
Just a reminder… the 40 Winks exhibition opens this evening!!
5.30pm, 126 & 128 Alexander St, Hamilton.
See you there!!
I can’t recall the name of this animal? Does any one know? It was less than 30cm high and had the craziest case of pencil legs I’ve ever seen! Some kind of pygmy deer??
During our recent visit to Singapore we got the chance to see the night safari and daytime zoo, where I got to relive my childhood dream of being a wild life photographer! (- what child/adult doesn’t dream of working for National Geographic or WWF?). The great thing about this zoo is they really make it feel like there is nothing separating you from the animals – which is pretty special I think. Along the way I found so many great characters and excellent drawing reference subjects. Check out my photography section for more.
