This dashing chap is has been frequenting my sketchbooks for rather a long time now. I believe he goes by the name ‘Inspector Brunswick’ and is known as a famous cat detective – up there with the likes of Agatha Christies ‘Poirot’. Time to get him working on a case…
Over the years I have counted myself very fortunate to have many creative and talented friends to inspire and influence me. One of this talented bunch is my good friend Chris Lam Sam. A creative wizard with words and music, he is a source of inspiration and jolliness which I truly admire!
Since 2011 we have been meeting together developing ideas, swapping our libraries of children’s books and dreaming up projects. While many of these are still a work in progress, today we begin to share some of our collective efforts with the world!
Here is a poem from our ‘Secretive Creatures’ collection, inspired by our love for Edward Lear. The process can sometimes start with Chris’s words which inspire my drawings, other times Chris might spot a character in my sketchbooks and write something about them and that is how this particular poem developed. We proudly present – The Nod Beagle.
Here are a couple of logo banners I illustrated a while back for the ‘Healthy Living Zone’ at the Food Show which has been touring New Zealand and is on in Auckland this weekend. It was great to collaborate with Good Magazine on something a little different from editorial illustration. Should be a delicious long weekend!
I was commissioned by the beautiful Flow Magazine to illustrate an article in their Dutch Holiday Book (Flow Vakantieboek 2014) about being mindful on your holiday. I had great fun working on these illustrations – despite the raining New Zealand winter weather outside, and could almost feel the warm sun and imagine myself relaxing in fields of flowers! Flow Magazine is gorgeous – perfect for stationary lovers such as myself and full of great articles and inspiration. They also have an international issue too!
